Boston Elevated Railway Company. Estiblished in 1894, this company failed to make much of an impact until it leased the well established West End Street Railway in 1897. The lease was only given due to heavy pressure applied by the new Boston Transit Commission, the countries first public transportation commission.
That same year the company both established the nations first electric underground street railway line and provided service to the new Boston Terminal, now South Station, the first publicly-financed public transportation facility.
The company experienced great success for decades, and many of its trolly lines and terminals are still in use today by the T (thats MBTA for you out-of-towners).
Stock. Issued in 1908.
