Multibestos Company. Originally founded in as the Standard Woven Fabric Company in 1915, this company produced large amounts of asbestos products from 1915 till 1934 at its site on South Street in Walpole. In 1986, a pile of uncovered asbestos was found at the which put its parent company (W.R. Grace) and owners of its previous parent (Dewey and Almy) in hot water. The site was cleaned up as a "Superfund" project.
