Lancaster Mills. Incorporated in 1844, this was the second major milling operation established by Erastus and Horatio Bigelow. They produced gigham cloth at this mill using a new loom design for which Erastus received a patent in 1845. The mill was located on Green Street which was then the Clintonville section of Lancaster, becoming the town of Clinton in 1850. Site of stikes and riots in 1912. As with the brothers first venture, The Clinton Company, the mill had significant success and impact on the region and it went on to acquire control of a number of other mills in the area.
