Belmont Coal Mining Company.
Stock. Issued in 1864. #165. This certificate is unusual in the most early Massachusetts coal companies used very common smaller format designs without much ornation. This one however, is much more in the tradition of the larger Pennsylvania Mining concerns. Its possible that the mine itself was actually in PA, and the company was headquartered from Massachusetts but of this I'm not sure.
